Most say "backordered estimated delivery July". I was looking for the chrome moly .534 bolt face. Any guess as to whether they'll really be ready in July? Any guess as to what's going on?

Thanks

All the actions seem to be backordered, I have no clue exactly when they'll start shipping again. Last I spoke to Dan@MRC, he said they had needed to change one of their machine shops.

I placed an order for a m1999 in .308 in September.

Got an email from Jon after I inquired about it. He said, "We have had certain issues with machining companies that have cause these huge delays."

I cancelled my order and applied the deposit to the PH action they are suppose to come out with. Not holding my breath on seeing that anytime soon.

Sounds a little like one or some of their subcontractors over promised and under delivered and MRC is trying to rectify the situation. Or such is the picture to me...

Myo order was for a SA but I have not down payment put on the rifle. Dan said they would call to let me know when it was done and that I could check in on progress of the rifle.

Just one more reason to manufacture in house...

I deal with sub-contractors all the time in my job, and QC is a nightmare. "Overpromising" is just a normal part of the game in my experience.

Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.

I believe in-house manufacturing is part of MRC's mid- to long-term plan. I don't know how long, or to what extent you have followed the story of MRC?? MRC was a startup company in the action business. Outsourcing was the only way they could pull off the feat of designing and putting a new action into production, given their capital structure. The fact that outsourcing (to multiple companies) could and would cause QC problems was not lost on them. In fact, during the infamous time when their new actions fell behind schedule, QC problems were a contributing factor.

As MRC have gradually progressed, and become more settled in their business, they would like to take advantage of this position to move certain production steps in-house. I doubt that would include the actual investment casting (done by Pinetree/Ruger), but the machining is probably an attractive candidate. Even so, moving production in-house is not a simple thing to pull off. Not only are the capital requirements significant, also the skill set required from your employes increases.

In any event, I don't think this is what is causing the current delay. The move to in-house production seems to be a future plan.

I am in the process of ordering a stainless steel .375 Weatherby barreled action from them and am also being told July before they can start my project. That's OK, it gives me time to line the money up for the rest of the rifle; stock, scope, etc.

I would imagine with Winchester's classic actions starting to disappear, the demand from the semi and custom gunmakers is strong and getting stronger for the MRC actions. Both Hill Country Rifles and Double T Gunshop have switched to the MRC actions now that Winchester is gone...
