| Gentlemen; What brand of rings and bases would you recommend for a sako. They dont have to be top of the line, just a decent ring and base. This would be for a Sako Vixen. |

| Sako's are the pits when it comes to finding a decent set of rings and bases. You pay an arm and a leg for the gun and then they take another big bite out of you for rings and bases. I don't know why they don't redesign the receivers for direct ring mounting like Ruger and include the rings with the gun. It's one of the reasons I don't own Sakos. The other reason is that most combinations of rings and bases are entirely too high, and can't be lowered. The two solutions I've found on the Sakos I've used are 1) Leupold rings directly mount on the Sako receiver. I've known of them to slip, on big kickers, but are fine for normal calibers. 2) Conetrol rings, they won't slip, and they're lower than most, but they can be expensive. Optiloks work, but for the life of me I can't understand buying a Finnlight and putting a pound worth of mounts and rings on it, guess I'm no Sako fan. |

| I have used the Leupold rings with good results on heavy kicking sakos. I usually drill/tap them on though. Why can't they do an integral base without a seperate base? That just never made any sence to me to advertise integral scope bases and then sell your rings with bases. |

| At last count I owned something like 20 Sakos. I have used all types/brands of mounts and most of them are completely statisfactory (including the Milletts). Most of my Sakos wear the old Redfields (with low or super-low rings). My hardest kicking gun, a .375 H & H, has a set of Leupold ringmounts, and they show no sign of slippage or other failure. The Leupolds are the lowest, slickest, and lightest, and if installed properly, are plenty strong and dependable.
The only mount I would have no use for is the current Sako Optilock. It's gawdawful tall, high in price, and weighs about as much as the action itself. Oh, yes; Weaver made a horrendous base adapter for the Sako. If you ever come across one, don't simply discard it but melt it down or cut it up or something; such abominations should not be allowed to roam around lest someone uknowingly attempts to attach one to a gun. |

| Suntiet, Sako is now making a 1 piece ringmount. I tried Leupold ringmounts on a M-75 375 and 300 Weatherby and they slipped all over the place. I sold off most of my leupolds to people using them on lighter recoiling rifles.......DJ |

| Has anyone tried the new B-Square rings called Lynx European dovetail rings. They're in the new (57) Brownell's catalog on page 329. They come in CZ and Sako models. Solid steel. They look pretty good. Rojelio |

| I have Optilocks on all my hard kicking Sako's. They are tougher than Madonna's ass. Most anything will work on a Vixen. You can go on ebay and find OEM Sako rings that are correct for the period that the Vixens were made. They are a slight pain to adjust, but I have them on a 6PPC sporter, and a 22PPC varmint rifle. A scope that works really well on the Vixen, and looks surprisingly good, is the Leupold 6x42. I will post a picture of my set-up later this evening when I get back in from dove hunting. Ever since Berretta bought Sako the service is slower, and the prices are higher. That is just the European way. Be glad you aren't buying accessories for a TRG 22 like I have been. Waa, waa, waa. If sleek is what you're after, then Conetrol is where you need to go. They make your rifle look like it is doing 60 mph just sitting in the gun rack. You now own a Vixen. Life is better. You are now better looking, and the chicks all dig guys with Sako's. JCN PS I don't know if Redfield is still in business this week, but for very few bucks I bought a set of Redfield bases for a Sako. They fit well, and really look sharp. |
