I just got a laminated stock sendero this week. last night I did the trigger and cleaned it really good inside and out. Tonight I planned on floating the barrel, only to find my brownells release agent had all dried up. [Eek!] After doing a search here, I see that most of you use Johnson's paste wax instead of release agent anyway! So, Im sitting here pecking away on these keys, HOPING Im not watching my barrel permanently bond itself to the stock! Make me feel better PLEASE! [Confused]

HA,

Johnsons paste wax is what I use but in a pinch have used Turtle wax with good results. My guess is even ear wax would work in a pinch...

I've used Johnson's paste wax, Bowling alley wax, paste wax over top of the release agent.
One of my hunting buddies used paste wax, then plastic wrap between the glass and the barrel. I would of thought the glass bedding would have desolved the plastic wrap, but he said no.
I always used three coats of wax to make sure I didn't have a permanant installation.

Three coats is what I did. I buffed off the first coat, lightly wiped off the 2nd coat, and left the 3rd HEAVY coat on.

Using carnauba furniture was I have gone one coat, buffed and it came free with some effort due to very little room between metal and epoxy.

Heck, I've taken to using saddle soap. Smells best, and I don't have to mess with clay for the little holes. Dutch.

I used to do fiberglass work with a master, our standard release was to use a wax base, with mold release on top of it.

I made some fiberglass pans this summer, and Johnson's paste will definately do the trick.

If you want more release agent, go to a fiberglass shop and pick up a bottle of PVA (poly vinal acetate), same stuff as in the brownell's kit, and so long as it's capped tight, it'll last a long time, mine was purchased 10 years ago.

Johnsons Wax is about all I use, or shoe polish...any good wax will do..I just use on coat and I don't buff it, no need. just put it on and go for it.

ONE smooth coat of any good paste wax is all that's needed. Apply it with a brush to get in all the corners and crannies. Too much wax mixes with the epoxy and softens it and makes a poor fit between metal and glass.

Wax certainly works, but the best release agent that I've ever used is RustGuardit spray, made by KleenBore. I've been using it for 21 yrs. and it is so easy. Just spray a light coat on and you're ready to go. I've used wax before when I ran out of the spray, but definitely go back to the spray.
