A friend has a titanium footpeg from his BMW cycle that needs a hole drilled in it- anything beyond the norm that I should do to go ahead with this? It will be done on a drill press.

thx

How large of a hole??
Use a 135 degree drill, cobalt if you have it, sharp tool very important, and just a dab of bacon grease as a cutting fluid. Trust me it works great and smells good too. Slow your rpms down to about half of what they would be for steel.

about a quarter inch diameter about the same depth, it will take a set screw and loctite.

I should have noted it will have to be threaded, also.

thanks, appreciated.

Good luck tapping that stuff by hand. Take your time lots of cutting oil. Two flute tap if you can get one it's stronger.

1/4 inch shouldn't be to much trouble though

Titanium work hardens. As stated above, you need the sharpest tools and slower speed but the same feed rate as steel because you need to cut into virgin material as you go. If the tool rubs the surface, you are toast. For a 1/4 dia hole 1/4 deep it should go pretty easy but use fresh tools and the best tapping fluid you can get your hands on.
