Myrtlewood for revolver grips

I came across a piece of stunning Myrtlewood and was considering makeing two sets of grips for my matching Ruger BH 32-20's Would it make for good grips or not.

Providing the wood is well seasoned, it makes a good stock. I have a Sako .243 varmint-weight stocked in myrtle.

I'm not suggesting it is the best for stocks of course, but it is certainly suitable.

Myrtle is about as soft as walnut. For grips it helps to finish them with actetone thinned epoxy. Wet sand to a smooth finish like you would a lacquer finish.

You can "age" myrtle like you do oak.....fume them with ammonia in a sealed box for a few days. The grips will turn a deep golden color.
