Why dit you American riflemen don't like the Enfield cock on closing and safety?
I use both the Enfield and Mauser actions and the Enfield is much easier and quicer than the Mauser.
The Enfield safety is more user friendly with a scope than a Mauser. I only ask?

ou cant beat the enfield safety. scope friendly and you have to be a dumbass not to know if its on safe or not.

I use both actions also and up here it is hard as hell to find a good smith who knows enfields so I stick with mausers.

You cant beat a nice enfield though, if you have the money. to me they are like ex-wifes. its gonna cost you. Mausers are the same but they seem to be cheaper.

A lesson in irony

The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing this year the greatest amount of free Meals and Food Stamps ever, to 46 million people.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us... "Please Do Not Feed the Animals." Their stated reason for the policy is because "The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves."

Thus ends today's lesson in irony.

We Yanks are just too hung up on the aesthetics. Fellas such as myself think that without a major cosmetic overhaul (which might include a three position model 70 type safety), game will just laugh at your enfield and evacuate any area that you try to hunt!

FISH!!

Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984:

"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."

I have two Rem Model 30S semi-customs.(M1917 based). The only difference with the M'17, is that they cock on opening. Other wise, original bolt and safty. They are a 375 H&H and 458 Lott. Great rifles

The standard issue bolt rifles for the US Army have always had cock-on-opening actions, and that's what we got accustomed to over the decades and generations. You guys always had cock-on-closing Army actions and you became accustomed to doing it that way. JMOFWIW.

I think it's aesthetics for one but more so the Mauser was just more readily available. and had better looks over all to begin with.
Both were military actions but with the bulky rear sight arrangement on the enfield not to mention cock on close. It was just not as appetizing a rifle as the Mauser is. That said The enfield would be my action of choice for any magnum cartridge. The ease of fitting a magnum case into the action is by far much easier then the standard length mauser. Then the square form threads. The oddball shaped bottom metal. It's an ugly action. but I would classify it as a truck not a Mercedes. And ugly as a truck may be it has it's purpose and utility getting the job done day in day out.
