Fred and Scot, the $200-250 is the range I was quoted and thanks for the confirmation. Scot, I bought all that stuff to refinish some time ago and it still sits in the spot I put it in. Have told the wife many times that there is not a paint brush in the world that will fit these hands and this stock work is just too close and I don't have 100 stocks to practice on. Thanks for sharing your experience and I may yet decide to give it a go on one of the two stocks.

I will not do one for less than $300 and that is with a gun to my head. Condition of the stock also has a bearing on the price. Scot was right on the money with regard to linseed oil, it looks good but is not a good stock finish when compared to what we have today. The mixture he describes with the wax was part of what was refered to as a "slackum" finish. The problem is and was that the wax will attract dirt and dust and darken with time.

My guy here in S. Calif. gets about $200-$250. It's quite time consuming & he tells me he actually looses money doing refinishes but likes to keep his customers happy.
