It is getting there, got it back from Mark Stratton a few days ago and all I can say, is the man is a true craftsman in every way. I really think "craftsman" is an understatement but I am at a loss for a better discription at the moment.
A couple of my buddies here, laughed at my idea of what I had in mind but I think it turned out better than great.so much for buddies, huh
Here are a few pictures, it is a 26" half round to the forend and then octagon, with a flat running the full length of the barrel.

Chic, being the "classy guy" I am, I like lace on two things and I guess the shooting bench is one of them.

TC1, this was a Super Grade that started out as a 338, I am a huge fan of the 264 mag, so that is what she is. With the gun loaded, sling it tips the scale right at 10lbs. Guess it won't be my mountain gun

It will go off to scrollcutter in a bit for the engraving and some gold inlays and the bluing.

Beautiful rifle.. and a very original idea cudos to you and Mr Straton..

Thanks guys for all the kind words. I just can't say enough for the work and time spent by Mr Stratton explaining everything to me, he was great to work with and his work speaks for itself. The good part is he is within 2 hours of my home.....

22WRF, I'm surprised you were the first to notice the Leica. I bought that scope over 2 years ago knowing I would find a good home for it. I was lucky to find one NIB

what are the ballistics for the .264 ?? I assume it uses standard 6.5mm bullets ??

Great rifle Jimmy and I am sure it shoots better then you do. I hope it will be shooting sage rats next spring. That much weight and that puny of a caliber it should be an ideal varmint rifle for the bench.

Mark is going to build a 280 for me this summer with one of his half-octagon barrels (mine is octagonal on the big end). I just can't decide whether to use a 98 Mauser or a Pre-War M70 for the action. Decisions, decisions!

Ok, so heres a target from today, at the range close to the house. Off a rock steady sandbag set up at 200 yards. Ammo was straight old factory 140 grn that I had laying around. These 5 rounds make for 23 rounds down the tube so far. I really didn't think it was to bad for a shaky ol guy like myself.

Mark, hell I was so happy that I didn't measure it till right now. From the very out most point,it was just a hair over 1". I'm really only interested in outside to outside not c/c.
I'm sure that with hand rolled and another few rounds down the tube that it should improve, if not I'm still more than happy.
