I picked up a take off stock for a CZ 550 American Safari that has the cross bolts installed from the factory. My plans are to re-finish the stock while I am here in Iraq. But I need to remove the cross bolts and I have no idea what spanner to use. I tried the B-Square spanner and they are too wide. If possible I would like to know what # size of spanner bit for a 1/4" driver/bit so I can order one.

If anyone has any idea what size these use please let me know.

I use an adjustable spanner wrench that I've had forever. It's a T-handled tool. One pin is mounted stationary and off center, the other is mounted on a rotating sleeve. Rotating the sleeve changes the distance between the two pins. I've seen them advertised for sale but I can't recall where. Call Brownell's tech line and they should be able to steer you in the right direction.

Or you can take a piece of round stock, drill two holes the proper distance apart, mount two pins and a t-handle, then go to town with it.

Oops. After I posted this, I saw your line about being in Iraq. That complicates things a bit. But somebody over there should be able to quickly make you what you need. It's an easy job.

I would second Mr Pursell's comments. I have made more than one with a hex head bolt. I measur the hole size and the center spacing, put the bolt in the mill and drill the appropriate holes in the appropriate location. With the threaded portion of the bolt cut off, it is a simple matter to use a socket/ratchet to turn it.
