I just recieved a certified letter from Winchester saying that they are recalling all model 70 classic stainless rifles purchased from December 2000 through now (all calibers). They did not say what the problem was, but stated to immmediately stop using the rifles under recall and that further use could result in serious injury or death to the shooter. They said they will prepay shipping to have the rifles returned for repair. Does anyone know what the problem is with these rifles?

I sent one back last fall , something to do with the safety. Took a long time for it to be returned!

Looks like this was for the Classic Stainless Stalker only. Winchester indicated that it was for just a small number of rifles.
