Dead in the water and need help!
My Jet 12x36 PS lathe is now 27 years old from the day I bought it new. It finally hic-uped for the first time in all those years. The changeover switch (forward-stop-reverse) went out. The switch is now obsolete, not made any longer. I am gunsmith not an electrician. This is the switch. Where can I get somthing to replace it?

I would really appreciate any help. I am dead in the water & the work is mounting up!

Well, Graingers has them, might require a slight mounting change or bracket to be made.
They are on the bottom half of page 264 in the newest (#401) catalog. Prices start at $55

If you have a older catalog, they are under "Switches, Drum" in the index
You just need to decide which size you need (HP rating)

Don't forget to take a look on ebay. That's where I get parts to keep my South Bend going.

Ok For one you done need an exact drop in replacement. and as you have found, trying to find a drop in replacement is not easy.
All you have there is a drum switch. Furnas and square D make them. They come with a red lever on them that is removable for other type of actuators. So you buy the switch you remove the bar the supports the fwd/rev lever and adapt it to the switch. then mount the switch to the lathe. (you may need to make a mounting plate)

That's how you do it.

When the on/off switch went out on my JET Mill I purchased this fwd/stop/rev switch, I believe, through Graingers, and had an electrician customer who is good with wiring electric motors hook it up. I mounted the switch, through the back screw plate, in a more convenient location. Perfect replacement!

It is a Furnas 58R44.

Grizzly has similar lathes, try to find a similar lathe and see if Grizzly has a similar switch. Most of these lathes share the same parts. I have bought parts for my Enco lathe from Grizzly. Bill

They don't have your OEM switch, true, they just have 10-15 switches that do the same thing in about the same size package (can).
Adapt (if needed) the mounting plate, remove the opperating lever (single set screw), if you don't like it right at the switch, and hook the shaft to the one shown in your photo.

Doug,

Any electrical distributor can get you fixed up. (I forget where you're at, but you should have an Elliott, Rexel, Wesco, Wholesale, etc. nearby.) Depending on how your changeover switch is wired, you can either wire in a reversing drum switch or a three button pushbutton station. If you're not comfortable tinkering with this stuff, an electrician should be able to get it done in an hour or so.
