I have a old Mauser action I'm thinking of nickle plating. What are your feelings on nickle plating, and do you have a good recommendation on someone who will do it?

If plating is applied properly it's ok ,otherwise it will peel. There are actually two types of nickel plating - electrolytic ( electricity is used) and electroless . The second one is nickel with small amounts of phosphorous which gives a grey color and is harder.

Electroless gives a much more consistant coating as far as thickness and distribution goes.

Electrolytic tends to build extra nickel on the ends, edges, or points of an object. This is where the electric current leaches and attracts more of the plating.

Electroless is generally more expensive.
