I have a Kimber 84m and I am using the factory wood stock to make a pattern. I think I have resolved the issues of lengthening the grip, toe out, etc., but have come up with a problem. If one looks at the bottom line of the stock from the trigger to the end of the fore-end it is pretty much a straight line. The problem is that I believe the fore-end of this stock is too deep. If I reduce the depth of the fore-end, then I'm going to end up with an angled step from the front guard screw to the fore-end tip. I don't know how to resolve this, i.e., make the fore-end shallower, but maintain a straight line from the grip to the end of the fore-end. One thought I have is to hack saw almost a 1/4 inch from the bottom leading edge of the magazine box. This might be a really crazy idea. If anybody with more experience and brains than I, could offer any advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

Are you wanting a straight line from the rear screw to the tip?. I would make the area around the floorplate what it needs to be to fit the action then taper the forearm from just in front of the floor plate to the front tip. I would not take a hacksaw to the mag box. You taper the box then floorplate will then taper to the action. One piece base the hole spacing will not match the action as you swing the plate up in the front. I have used a drop off around my floorplate if it is an issue As usual just my $.02 Paul K

Ramrod has a valid point IMO. Changing the angle of the bottom metal relative to the bore line will cause the action screw heads to not bear squarely against the recesses in the BM. A small misalignment, perhaps, but there all the same. I have trimmed a mag box before but always a parallel cut on the top of the box. Perhaps Dave Wesbrook will weigh in on this.

Of course you can taper the mag box; just make sure your screw head recess, which is in the front tang of the mag box/triggerguard assembly if it is a Mauser like in the picture, is square to the head; You can get it that way by using an end mill. And you might have to enlarge the front pillar on the guard if it is one piece. If two piece, no problem. Understand that your screw head will never be square with your modified box though. However, if you make it too much of a straight taper, it won't look right. You can reduce the depth of your foreend without such drastic measures.
