Dall85Conetrol Rings and Mounts
The Burgess thread has been an eye opener with some beautiful mounts and rings. What is your opinion of Conetrol mounts and rings? What are your favorite rings and mounts?

buckshotI like Conetrol mounts & rings. Once assembled, they form a seamless assembly that looks great and their bluing is first rate too. I've never damaged a scope using them either, something that can't be said about rings with screws that can be over torqued.
I've got two sets, one in 30m/m, the other is 1". Both are superb and well worth the time to find.

BiebsI just think the looks of Talleys on a high-end rifle are a natural. I have had Conetrols, and they're cool, but not as easy to mount as most rings. Great tension system though.

FMCThey are a PITA to mount, but once done so there isn't a better system out there at all.
There are two types of people in the world: those that get things done and those who make excuses. There are no others.

DWrightUsed to like the Control's because they looked clean. But the last set I had, I must have over tightened them however, cuz the dove tail on the top, ripped right out of the caps and fell apart. Too fragile for my liking, so won't use them ever again! Junk!

jeffeossoi have a set on a 7x64 ... work great .. i wouldn't have paid extra for them, seperately, though

TommyhawkMy favorite QD scope mount is the German claw mount and the Conetrol for non QD. It's a pity they are not used more often.

IdaredMy favorites are the ones Buehler made. They adjust to the size of the scope tube and I have never found any screws that were tougher than what was used in them.
I have a couple sets of Conetrol but really don't care for them all that much. They do look nice but I just never could like the hassle of putting them together on a rifle. I can't imagine having to attach a scope with them on in the field. I know I'd drop and lose something before it was over.

Abob or anyone else,
Do the Kimber rings work the same as Talleys? Or maybe a better question is what are the differences between those rings and Talleys?
Also do the Kimber rings have one or two screws at the top of each ring?
cheers,
- stu

tom ga hunterMost of the rifles that I actually use have Conetrol mounts, they are easier to put on after a few drinks.

They look a lot like Talley's but they are not interchangeable, different size dove cuts
They have 1 screw on top & 2 on bottom

Ive thought about that, but never heard it actually happening.
Did you contact George At Conetrol about it?

Abobhere are the Brownell/Kimber/Wisner rings
The way I understand it, Ed Brownell designed them, Kimber made them for awhile, and then Jim Wisner turned them out for a few years
I have a set made by Kimber and one set made by Jim; 1 set of bases by Kimber & 3 sets of bases by Jim
Unfortunately, I don't know of anyone making them now a days

Though I don't have a lot of call for them. they're certainly not "junk" You didn't get the cap on right!

kk alaskaI really liked the Kimber rings & bases I had on my Win 88. The quality was great. I sold them to keep me from going out and replacing my Win 88! I also like the old Leupold Detacho would love to find bases for a Win 70 or Rem 700
have one pair of Extra rings.

Kyler HamannI've had great luck with Conetrols over the last 15+ years. Sure they're a bit tougher to mount and cost more than some, but neither of those are a real factor in the big picture.
I've broken all the rules with carrying my rifle by the scope while guiding for many years. Even running, jumping, crawling through brush, etc.... never had one come loose or get knocked off POI using the Conetrols.
They're much stronger than people give them credit for and nothing comes close to looking as clean in my opinion.

X2, But, if you get the deluxe, the ones with the little screw, it makes it alot easier, oh yeah, and a few drinks. I use them on my personal deer rifle.
