Rem 700 SA to 6.5-284 - making it work?

I got my Rem 700 Ti back from the smith and he hadn't done all the work I had asked for.
It's a short action and was rechambered in 6.5-284 which is farily long, too long to fit into the short action, but not by much.

Namely; cut a small recess in the action fore and aft to help the rounds come out. But he also forgot to put in the magazine floorplate and spring, and left the spring out of the ejector, so we will be having a convsersation, but I will not be happy to send the rifle back to this guy, every time a gun comes back from him, there is something wrong or missing. Last time it was a turret off the scope!?! why?

So now I'm looking at solving the problems myself.

I don't care about this rifle actually feeding from the magazine, as I am happy for it to operate as a single shot, but it must at least be able to be loaded, and un loaded by means of the bolt, and not by picking around at cases and shaking the rifle upside down, as I am curtrently having to do...

The first thing I want to do it make up another bolt stop that will give me another 3mm of bolt travel, which is enough to make a difference to be able to extract live rounds.

Then I would like to mill a small cutout into the action just to give it a little more clearance, but no more than a few mm either side of the action cutout.

Can I afford to cut away let's say 5mm for and aft to make room for the rounds to exit?
Will the modified bolt stop cause any other problems?

Thanks.

Having gone thru a few 6.5x284s, built on both the 700 SA and LA, I'll say this. For what you want to accomplish, you'd likely be better off to sell you 700 SA and look for a LA and have you barrel installed and head-spaced. The 6.5x284 on a 700 LA is a dream. I couldn't wait to part with the SA that my 1st 6.5x284 what built on and screw the barrel to a LA.

As a side note, I also have a 6.5x284 built on a NH M70 SA. It too is miles ahead of the same caliber on the 700 SA. The M70 SA with a WSM mag box and follower, gives on just that extra room that you are try to eek out of the 700 SA.
