New Barrel, New Bedding?

I've never had a barrel replaced, but I'm considering it. If I ask a barrel maker to match the contours of the original barrel, what are the chances I'll have to re-bed the action?

Specifically, I'm on the lookout for an older Sako L579 .243 that I can replace with 7mm-08 or other short cartridge.

Thanks.

Of course; yes you need to re bed it; no two barrels are exactly the same, to the degree that bedding needs to fit. Douglas uses a tracer lathe to copy old barrels; and a CNC lathe to make new ones on; they will be within a few thousandths, but bedding needs to be perfect, which is the reason for it in the first place.

Thanks. I expected that, but wanted to be sure.

You should not have to rebed the action, the pad for ther barrel in front of the action, yes

I haven't had the action out of the stock yet - the screws remain unbuggered - so I don't know what it looks like inside.
