As mentioned before this is my 2nd rifle build. First was a 22-250 on a 700 action. This is a 6.5-06 on a Charles Daley Mauser action. Barrel is a 1-7 Mcgowan 24 inch with a Douglas #5 contour. I like heavier barrels on my rifles so went with more of magnum contour. Not a lightweight barrel fan although they have their place and would own one in a light caliber.

First pic is the chamber just finished. Stock is a Boyds laminate. I prefer laminate stocks over plastic/epoxy anyday. I like the look and feel of them.

Stock being prepared for bedding. Using Acraglas Gel from Brownells.

Using paste wax as my release agent. Used a couple coats and polished after it dried. Was told not to use release agent that comes in bedding kit.

Got it bedded last night around 7pm. Went back at 11pm and removed excess after it stiffened a little. Will remove action around noon today to check.

My dad (Rolland) is helping with the build, he has built numerous. My first build I pretty much watched and learned and did some of the light work. This time I am much more hands on and doing most of the work. Although he did the chambering and delicate precision work. I am having a blast and already thinking about what to build next.

Next up is to bed the bottom metal. There is the pillar at the tang, not shown. Then bluing. Not sure what method of bluing we are using yet. Will post progress later, I have to take a break from this for a few days to keep the wife happy.

Update. Stock is bedded and pillared. Came out perfect with no lock ups. Very little clean up and no air bubbles. Excited about that, this being my first.

Waiting on bluing tank to arrive. Doing Belgium Blue. So will jewel the bolt and re laquer the stock while I wait. Boyds doesn't put much laquer on. Will use Satin Laquer.

Gun is finished. Actually has been for about a month but have been busy with Antelope hunts and loading for other hunters.

Will put a few pics up after I get more time.

Broke barrel in and it shoots under 1/2 inch with a load I picked out of thin air. Just threw 40 rounds together with a mid charge of Reloader 19. I can only imagine the possibility after I play with bullet depth and tweak charges a little. Very happy with the way it turned out. Headspace is perfect and no sticky cases on the chamber.
