Mike isnt much on computers, I think he has one, but he doenst use email or internet..........he says thats for guys that don't have anything to do.......

i just got one back from him. he used to live fairly close to me. he was good to visit with and root around his shop for blanks. i haven't used everyone who provides this service but i have settled on him because he is good, quick, and nice to deal with.

Does Mike have any nice patterns or does he mill from your pattern only?

he has some patterns that he uses. i like some of them, you may also.

Mike told me how many pattern he had, I can't remember.........but I think it was several hundred. He has a bunch. Some I like, some I don't, but I've only used a couple of them. He has a bunch of Mauser patterns. Best thing to do is get him to turn you a scrap and pattern it like you want it and send it back to him.

He goes to many of the PA shows and usually has two tables full of sample stocks. This does not help you guys who are far away though.

Lawndart I had guessed that those rifles of Boho/Cewe were made off a husqvarna stock reshaped a little. I maybe wrong just a guess.

Im almost done with pattern im making off a husqvarna 640 stock. The grip is more open than those though.

Could I borrow, or rent your pattern when you are done? I have big mitts, and can stand an open grip on a rifle.

What you say about a re-worked Husqvarna makes sense considering the locale.

Lawndart , it has a 3/4-7/8" drop at heel, about 4 1/16" grip, the bottom on the forend on these is wide with a flat bottom, I reshaped the forend so its not as bulky and rounded, slimmed down on the sides , small pancake cheekpiece mostly for detail. Completely glass inleted for a FN M98 with standard 640 barrel. Im not quiet done with it.

I won't be ready for a stock for a while. I'm casting about trying to find a pattern that fits me very well, and then using it on all the mausers I plan to build.

Big grip, cast off, toe out, set up mainly for scopes in deference to my soon to be 50 year old eyes.

Give a shout when you are back on the Idaho end of your migratory cycle.

I have an idea, whoever lives closest to Mike Kokolus, should go by his shop, take him a bucket of KFC, a bag of Fritos and a quart of whisky and take pictures of all his mauser patterns and whatever others make sense.

Take Mike the chicken and a Sharpie Marker and at least get him to number the patterns like Mauser 1, Mauser 26, Jerry Fisher Special, Winchester Pre War Supergrade at least... That way we can all share the love and the knowledge of his vast collection of patterns...

He sent me one, I'm not satisfied with the shape... It's hard to describe the shape of a rifle stock over the phone!

Here's another great stock turner. He just rough's them out. Will NOT finish one at all. Is the retired stock making instructor at Trinidad Gun School for many yrs, dating back to Ackley's day I believe.

Last I had made was: my wood, $40 + $10 UPS and he had it to me in 6 days. He prides himself on getting them turned and out in three days from when delivered to him.
He's another guy that refuse's to use the internet for e/mail at least: "too much porno etc"

Unless you have a pattern, or he does, you're SOL.

I took a hunk of maple to have an overly large stock roughed out for a .72 cal I'm trying to build and he refused to do it unless I had a pattern.

I'm still looking for a pattern, or someone that could rough shape one for me. Classic style, but, much larger than normal.

There was a gunsmith that always advertised in the gun mags by the name of John Korzinek-Riflesmith. He was from Canton, Pa. and did the Ruger #1 conversions, don't know where he is now as my last contact with him was in the late '80's.
