I had a older gentle man call me to day and ask me about installing a recoil reducer in the but of his Remington model 788 in 308 win. He just had a heart pacer put in his chest, and he is thinking the recoil from the rifle might effect it. He told me he uses 150gr factory loads in his rfle. How well do the mercury recoil reducer work? I told him to ask his doctor about this. Recoil never bothered him before but with the heart problem he's thinking it might.

I'm no expert I have only played with one. It was a little SXS double 12 for my wife. A guy loaned me one to try. It weighed 8-10oz. In my non-expert opinion I reduced the recoil just as much by sticking about 10oz of lead in the stock.

I would consider adding some weight, a good pad and reduced recoil loads. The guy I borrowed it from was a trap shooter he and his buddies use them. But he uses 2. A lb of weight well do a lot.

As usual just my $.02

I told him that he could consider some reduced loads in his rifle. Most deer shot here are under a hundred yards. He also told me his wife has a 243 win she uses for dear, I told him the recoil from it would be a lot lighter then the 308.
