I am doing a complete disassembly and resto on this gun that was my Dad's favorite hunting rifle during my youth. It has been great therapy working on this old rusted up filthy gun while remembering his time on the planet.
I have the barrel seperated from the action, and the round retainer unthreaded at the muzzle end off but still cannot see how to seperate the inner spring loaded barrel from its outer liner. There is another piece at the muzzle end that is threaded and I have backed it off (it clicks as it is turned) until it stops. It does not want to go further and careful application of a wrench feels like more pressure is going to break something. HELP GUYS

Ultraman, I have an 81 so I may be able to get you started. The internal spring on mine is only about 9 inches long. there is a small screw under the bbl about halfway between the stock and muzzle. That is where the spring stops. Dont take it out yet. Stand the bbl up muzzle on a block of wood and press it down so the sleeve and bbl seperate slightly and dump some kroil between the sleeve and the bbl and let it sit for a day or two. After that the thing came right apart. If I get a chance I'll look at mine again today and look for the blowup diagram. It's been a while but I remember it being fairly easy. One of the pieces may be reverse threaded so they stayed tight against each other. Good Luck.

Thanks Carnivore. I made an error. This rifle is an 81. It had somuch crud on the side of the reciebver the 1 was blocked off. I think I know the screw you are referring to if it is a small plug screw that once removed the inner barrel can be seen. I am confused by your instuctions on what its function is. With the screw removed I can see the inner barrel move freely as I pull the chamber end out (compressing the spring) while holding the outer barrel sleeve with my other hand. What exactly is holding them together at this point?

There are two threaded pieces on the end of the bbl one is threaded to the muzzle and one is threaded onto the bbl sleeve. Both of these have to come off to remove the bbl. That screw holds a block that keeps the spring in place. This may get you going. I am going to the garage and tear mine down right now because now you have me thinking. It is a very clean rifle left to me by my grandfather so it shouldn't take long. I'll post any new revalations.....C

It took about three minutes to break down so I took a picture of the order of the parts and I will send it to your listed e-mail in jpg format. Let me know if you get it ok. The ratchet feeling is normal, don't worry. Hope the picture helps. C
