338 WSM Standard or Wildcat?

Reading through the post on the 338 WSM dies issue, it appears that there is now a standard for the 338 WSM.
Don't see anything about it at the Winchester site.
Anyone have background on this.

I love the 210 Nosler in my 338 Hawk. Thinking of something a little lighter and all weather for a wilderness Elk hunt.

Been thinking of a 338 WSM on a MRC action for a while now. Stainless w/ 23 inch barrel in a lightweight composite stock. Hoping for a standard to be set before I do it.

Thanks

the 339 wsm, today, is a wildcate based off the 300 wsm simply necked out. This is a mistake, IMHO, as the 7 WSM is a slightly longer, and a couple grains greater, capacity. All for a couple grains? you bet your bottom dollar... after all, don't people "ackley improve" rounds all the time, for 3-10% gain in capacity?

USRAC, if you are reading this, come out with the 338 WSM based off the 7 WSM, NOT the 300

Expand both a 7mmWSM case and a 300WSM case and measure your water capacity. Identical. 83g of water. The web is thicker in the 7mm case and both hold 83g, exactly. I went through this exercise when building my third 338WSM. It's not likely that Olin will standardize the 7mm case as they are still stuck on the perceived and alleged problems of the short neck on the 300 Win Mag and that's exactly the reason they lengthened the neck and shortened the body on their first efforts at the 338WSM and then shelved the project. We can all speculate but let's see what happens when their products for 2004 are introduced at the SHOT show. I'm betting it will be the 300WSM with expanded neck, or be it the 338/300WSM, if they try to standardize it at all.

I have a reameer for this one; it was made by Dave Kiff at Pacific Precision Grinding. It is the 300WSM with a sized up neck and pilot for the 338. Dave labelled it the 338/300WSM. Have done a few barrels with this one and the resuts seem to satisfy the clients.
