I have a higgins model 50 that I want to remove the iron sights on. I knocked the blades out and there were no screws on the bases so I'm guessing they are soldered on.

I tried a propane torch without any luck. Would a MAPP gas torch with a turbo head work or do I need the big stuff?

Thanks,
Terry

You need the big stuff, as I recall, they are brazed on.

I would like to buy the rear sight base if you are discarding it.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.
