I am thinking about rebarreling a Rem 700ADL from 30-06 to 280.How much should something like this cost?

Crap barrel and gunsmith, $200.
Custom barrel like Lilja, Hart, Pac Nor, etc and getting the action trued at the same time, $550-700.
You pick your option and reap the benefits.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

Above prices are very accurate.
with the mid range being $350 to $450 for just a decent barrel swap no action truing

Given that a new barrel requires chambering, headspacing, nomenclature inscribed, crown, threading, polishing, installing to receiver, and bluing.....and we haven't added Iron sights yet if desired.....and the cheapest barrel I know of is an A&B for about $90.....I seriously doubt that there's anyone out there will do it for $200.

More like double that IMO....

There are some. I see the results often when I get them to fix correctly.

it&d charges about 150, no bluing or stockwork, pacnor about 250, and iirc, Ed Shilen said either 380 or 400, and its that high bc of his opprotunity cost.. and that's Ed doing it, not a shophand

You could probably trade for about $100. I have to ask, what are you going to shoot with a .280 that you can't shoot with a 30-06? I'm a fan of both cartridges, but wouldn't spend any money to trade one for the other in a 700ADL.
