Hello the campfire:
I have put the first coat of finish on my stock, 1/2-1/2 Truoil and mineral spirits. The stock looks great. I have read the I need three weeks to let it dry. Is this correct? It feels dry to the touch now. Once this first sealing coat is dry, however long it takes, low long between the next coatings? This is new to me as I never waited this long in the past and have been happy with the results, but this blank is special and I want it right.
Has anyone got a checkering pattern to share? I want something simple but elegant. I also need one of the small engravable silver ovals th put on the stock for my son's initials. Does anyone have a source for this?

Thanks for the help.

Is it safe to let for a 58 year old man run around in the woods unsupervised with a high powered rifle?

That is a little long for the first coats. Bill Soverns had this to say at MauserCentral

Three weeks for true oil? Depending on your climate I would say more like two days.
