What is a good setting for a hunting rifle trigger? My Browning A-bolt 300 WSM feels a little heavy. I like getting into a trigger before it trips, but I don't like to end up wondering if the safety is on before it finally goes off. What is a normal factory setting?

I like about 3 - 4 pounds on a hunting rifle. Less on my target rifle, and maybe a bit less on a long-range varmint rifle. Some will state that they like very light triggers, but I feel more comfortable hunting with a 3-4 pound break on a crisp trigger. Some factory triggers these days are just plain nasty! My last Rem 700 had a pull that measured 6 pounds and felt gritty. Quick trip to the gunsmith solved that problem. I've tried recent production Remingtons, Winchesters and Rugers that all had nasty triggers. Guy

I like about 3 to 3.5 lbs on a hunting rifle, 2 lbs on a varmint rifle, and my 1000 yd benchrest rifles have 2 oz triggers.
