About 4 months ago, my dad found a pristine, used Vanguard VGX in .338 Win Mag at the local sports shop in Yuma, AZ. Since I needed something smaller than my .300 H&H, I bought it and had Mike Scherz of Gila River Guns (MichaelS. of this forum) turn it into a .257 Wby. The first thing he did was send the .338WM barrel into Douglas so they could make a .257 barrel with the same profile so it would fit the stock. Then he refinished the stock (it even had cut checkering!}. The pictures don't do it justice, it's damn nice. I topped it off with a Leaupold VariX III 2.5-8x. I've ordered a set of Weatherby rings for it, so the ones on it are temporary. Now I have a box of 120grn Partitions to shoot through it (hopefully this Saturday unless I take the family camping). And then I have to cross my fingers that I get that Wyoming 'lope tag Anyways, I just wanted to show off my new toy

JL Thats a very nice looking Vanguard. All I can say is Mike is a miracle worker cause I ant never seen a Vanguard with a stock like that. As far as camping goes, go camp close to a rifle range. Family time and gun time what more could a man want. Shawn

JL... if all goes well, I think you are going to fall in love with this rifle. I have an older 257wby, and it has been a wonderful rifle for me. The wind at Ben Avery wont even budge those bullets . Now didnt you say you were going for lope hunt with it?
