Control Feed Ruger Rifles

I understand that the newer Ruger Model 77 Mark II (Mod. 70 type safety) has controlled feed and that the old Model 77 (with tang safety) is push feed.

Could someone who knows his Rugers confirm this?

yes (kind of) and yes.

the mark II you can throw a round on top, and it will push feed and snap over, otherwise, when feeding from the mag, generally work just like a m70 (notice i didn't say mauser)

if your mkII doesn't snap over, it should be a 10 min fix (8 mins polishing of that) at a local gunshop.

The M77 (original) is pure push feed.
The M77MkII is generally accepted as a CRF, but that depends on the inidvidual gun. Some are timed properly and some aren't. They all have the potential to be CRF.

And there are a small number of M77 that were made with features from both.

yes...

IMO if at the time the round pops out of the magazine (upon being chambered) it's rim is caught between the extractor and the bolt face such that it can be retracted and ejected without the necessity to fully chamber the round the gun is a CRF.

Some of the early MK 11's are push feed. I have one in the Express model.

The safeties on the MK 11's are kind of small for me and have a greater arc of operation and therefore are not as easy to use as a M70 or a Kimber.
