What a horrible shame! I think this rifle was ruined by pure neglect! Someone should have his/her butt kicked for allowing this to happen!

Those pits might be from blood rust, but whatever the cause, it's worth about half of what he's asking for it, and then only if the bore if perfect and you don't mind paying to have it bead blasted and Parkerized. What a mess. Okie John

I was just surfing through the gunbroker web site and saw this
VERY PITTED BROWNING SAFARI
I've heard about the "salt wood" Brownings before, but I've never seen one. Is this an example or did something else bad happen to this poor rifle?

Most of the salt wood Brownings that I've seen were pitted badly at and below the woodline. I've never seen corrosion problem go all of the way up the sights before. I'm not saying it isn't one, it just looks atypical even for a salt cured wood stock gun.
