I have a 338 winmag with a synthetic stock that I would like to lower the felt recoil on a bit. I am thinking about getting one of the mecury filled recoil reducers and glueing it into the stock at the top as close as possible to the bolt, so it doesnt effect the balance too much. Do these work well? Which would be the best one for this purpose? The gun I have is really light, just over 7 lbs scoped so a little extra weight wont hurt too much. http://www.gamaliel.com/cart/catalog/product_487_C__H_Mercury_Recoil_Reducer_Rifle.html That is the one that I was looking at but any recommendations would be appreciated. There is only ONE way to totally remove felt recoil.... Fire the weapon at Dangerous Game, headed for you, at a high rate of speed, generally pissed off... Bet you don't hear or feel it go off jeffe

Stinkers, I have an 8 mag that I put a Dead Mule brand recoil reducer in. It helped but I think more from the fact that it added 12 ounces moreso than the mechanical effect of the sliding weight. I have heard that the mercury reducers are a bit better and there is a guy in Kansas that makes them. Here too it may well be a factor of additional weight moreso than mechanical recoil reduction. The mercury may slow it but I am not sure that it is worth the weight. My 8 mag went from 8 pounds to 10.5 by the time I bedded and added the recoil reducer. Though slightly less sharp in the recoil department it, in retrospect, was better to deal with it and have the lighter rifle. Search for "Mercury Recoil Reducers" and pick the guy in Kansas. Real helpfull. Hopefully you'll put one in and let us all know how well it works. Good Luck in your quest. Cheers, Jason
