I would like to build a 500 A Square and wondering if the 110 savage is strong enough. This is to be a fun gun (rock buster) not a DGR. The savage has longer ejection/loading port and I can modify the bolthead easily. Will be single shot. Please advise opinions regarding safety/strength issues. Thanks, RandyB.

There is a member "hubel458" who knows more about the Savage actions then anyone else. I don't often see him on the Gunsmithing board but he is all over the Big Bore board. If he doesn't reply to this thread you may want to PM him. I would be interested in knowing what he says. If all you want is a single shot the Ruger #1 action will take it without any issues. As far as I know Ruger only makes one action for the #1 so (after checking with your gunsmith) could get the cheapest #1 at a gunshow in any caliber and rebarrel it. I would want to add some weight to the #1 though or it will be brutal.

The Savage will handle that easy. Its locking lugs are the same strength as the big Rugers, Enfields and CZs. Ed MZEE WA SIKU
