Dear Sirs: I have seen a M-98 actually (2003) made by Brno Arms, and a guy told me this action is an old VZ-24 reasembled, and other people says this action is new made. Does anybody knows the real origin of the action of those rifles? Can they be used as a good platform for a custom rifle with a caliber with an COL of a 30-06? Ignacio Colomer

Several years ago I bought a new BRNO M98 imported by EAA. After doing a little Internet research this is what I came up with. These are surplus actions that are surface ground. BRNO uses these for there customs, but not all make the grade. The "seconds"were sold to EAA and imported into the states with economy barrels and Ramline stocks. Now don't take that as gospel, but that's what I came up with. Keep in mind, about the only thing that's been done is the action has been surface ground and drilled and tapped for a scope. If you actually want to use a scope on it you'll need to have a new bolt handle welded on and change the safety installed because neither will clear a scope unless you mount VERY high. While you're at it you might as well change the trigger too. I did all the above to mine and put a new stock on too. Mine wasn't very smooth, but it was accurate. Ignacio - They are not new made. BRNO is rebuilding surplus military actions - they are not making new actions. Also, not all actions used in the new BRNO guns were made by BRNO. But, all pass the same quality tests before being used.
