I have a Venezuelan FN made Mauser that is chambered in 7x57. The action is smooth as butter but the barrel is gone (pitted and gives poor accuracy). I would like a 458 win mag, and I am considering buying a used ruger mkI in 458 win, BUT... could/would this old FN mauser make a good 458 win instead of the ruger? Does anyone know if it would be feasible or adviseable to turn this FN into a 458? Thanks David [ 10-28-2003, 01:09: Message edited by: David Thomas ]

You might want to check out mag box length, etc. Many FN South American contract Mausers were intemediate length, and won't accomodate a 3.34" round. Also not too common -- you may want to stick a proper barrel back on that and keep it, assuming you have the rest of it. Todd

Thank you for your response Todd. Any other opinions on whether or not this would be feasible? Thanks, David [ 10-28-2003, 01:15: Message edited by: David Thomas ]
