Gentlemen,

this is what I learnt 2 days ago in the Czech Republic:

CZ currently has the CZ 550 Magnum only in the Lux version with the humpback stock. The standard straight stock is not available.
(Remark: an e-mail friend from Germany has bought a CZ 550 Magnum with straight stock only 3 months ago. But he says he had to replace the stock anyway because it had way too much drop).

Now the good news: after hearing my pleas, the salesman called the factory, and then informed me that a model "Safari" of the CZ 550 Magnum shall be out in a few weeks (but he also warned me that it might take a little longer - seems he knows his production guys).
This Safari model will have a straight stock, and will be of a better "Prestige" grade, e.g. with a jewelled bolt, any other details or prices still unknown.
So on my next trip to Prague in a month or two I will be back in the CZ shop and see what's new.

I also handled a CZ 550 American, standard length action, also "Prestige" grade. The stock of this felt good, but: yes, the bolt knob was screwed on, and was loose already in the shop!
The 550 Magnum I saw still has a real bolt knob. I have to buy my rifle as soon as possible before they decide to put plastic knows on all rifles!

Otherwise, the staff at the shop was well informed, friendly, and realistic about their products, I liked talking to them. We were discussing some custom extras, and they clearly said that they do mass production, and not all wishes can be fulfilled - but they will see what can be done.

If they decide to bring that straight stocked African to the US, some other gun companies are going to have a run for their money!

Thanks for sharing your info. I think CZ products show a lot of value for the money.
If they were to use a stock from one of our better classic style rifle builders as a pattern, I think they would gain more in the US market. It will be interesting to see what they come out with.

Just received a mail from a Ing. Frenzl, they will in the future drop the plastic parts, he will send me replacement parts free of charge!!

Bad news is they make only one kind of front sight, so no replacement parts there.

I wish any company would stand behind their products as CZ!

As the new models already have a crossbolt in the stock only a better stock design is necessary. But then IMHO they are near perfection. And these prices ...

CRF, good adjustable trigger, that action with the 19 mm dovetail there is sure enough metal there, looks somewhat like a double square bridge, real wood, ( accuracy on mine only tested with open sights, will report later ), so what else do we want??

P.S.: to join the short barreled 9.3 for woods hunting I thought a .375 with a long tube might be just the ticket, but don�t tell my wife ;-)

and you started me thinking about a handy 9.3x62, to join the .375 (which is not yet here, of course)!
But I would start with a 60 cm barrel, maybe have it shortened to ca. 56 cm.
No scope, but a Lyman receiver sight.
I also agree, no topic for the wife.

To join my 9.3x62 CZ, I want a .416 Rigby. You never know when them scientists'll start cloning dinosaurs on you and you'll be staring a hungry Ceratosaurus i the face.

I will stop off at their booth at the S.H.O.T. show in February and jaw at them about the new stock. It could open up a whole new aspect to the American gun market. Ohboyohoboyohboy!

A .416 in Europe??? Of course I would use cast bullets, slightly loaded down, but the remarks behind my back ...:-)))
