Johnly450 Marlin Bolt action
I have a line on a 22" Ruger 45-70 barrel off of a Ruger #1. I was thinking of cutting a 450 Marlin chamber into it and screwing it onto a M77 SA. Chances are that I'll convert a standard .473 bolt face action to magnum sized, unless I can find a short mag action cheap. Has anyone made a 450 Marlin bolt gun?

jeffeossojohn,
folks have made 458 2" for about 50 years, and the marlin is barely anything different from that (belt and pressure differences aside)..
it will work great.. and might be a GREAT thing to do to a WSM action

bill439If you can find a siamese 98 action, it should work with no change in bolt or magazine. I have one that I made many moons ago in 45-70 and was smart enough to turn the rims of the 45-70 case to fit the bolt face. I have thought of maybe getting a chamber reamer in 450 and do the deed, but rifle works great as is sooooo I leave it alone. Best of luck, Bill439

KabluewyI'm having one made, and it's at the gunsmith now for final assembly, and to deal with feeding issues.
I ordered a pre-fitted and chambered stainless barrel from Pac-Nor - 20" long, 1 in 20" twist. The action is a Ruger MK II SA stainless, which left the factory wearing a 350 Rem Mag barrel.
I am expecting to have this rifle by spring, and post pictures, and targets, and other data.

Mark TaylorI phoned Shaw a while back about screwing a 450 barrel on my Siamese action, and they said they wouldn't do it. Said the boltface wouldn't work. I say bovine excrement. Anybody else do this, and maybe tell me a company to look into?
