The thread on making a barrel vise reminded me of a question I've had in the past ...

How do you vise a barrel that has a quarter rib installed on it? Do you make an insert with a relieve for the rib?

That's how I do it. I use wood blocks in my barrel vise so when I have to pull a barrel with a rib I make blocks with notches to fit.

I'm too poor to have ribs on my guns but all you'd have to do it mill a slot in the bushing after you split it. As, long as the vise uses think bushings like the one I showed, I don't think you could do it in one that had thin bushings like b-square's.
