I have been asked to supply some bases for a friends rifle, but we are having dificulty identifying the rifle and action!
the rifle is a sedgemoor alpine in 243,
the action and pardon my ignorance on this, is I think a mauser action.
The action has on the left hand side(looking from behind) a cut away about 1.5"long x 3/4"deep in the loading bay, the safety is on the left on the rear of the bolt,and flips up and down, when the safety is disengaged the (ready to fire)the firing pin housing moves forward,it has a year stamp or possibly a model no of "1908"on the front top part of the reciever.
the front part of the reciever (where the barrel screws in) is round but has extra metal on the right and left.
anyone know WHAT mauser this action is, so I can order some bases.

What you have described is a (likely) 1898 mauser 1908 brazilian but '98 mauser is all you have to know to get scope mounts. The request to post a photo is well heeded and will positively allow for an ID but here's something else....take it to the sporting goods store....gun shop...and they can positively identify it and also sell you the bases etc......IT'S WHY WE DO BUSINESS WITH THE SMALL SHOPS...they know things and help us get the right stuff.....we buy their expertise when we but their goods.

we are not as fortunate as those across the pond,most of our sporting gun shops wouldn't know a mauser from a fence post....
