A friend is interested in them for hammers & triggers on pistols. I've seen them on some custom 45 autos and SSK has a photo of some on a Ruger SA. Any thoughts on who might do this and $? Would the gun need to be blued or SS? Thanks.

Check this site out. http://www.brycoat.com/
I have no personal experience with this company but an engineer friend of mine gave me this web address. There is some good info here.

YukonDelta,

I couldn't tell you where to do it in your area, but I can tell you that the metal should be bare of any finish before it's coated.

So you are either going to use carbon steel in the white, or stainless. You can talk to the coating company to see if they can do most of a hammer or trigger (like the sear surfaces and outside surfaces) giving you a "gold plated" effect. Or you can have them just do the sear surfaces to reduce friction, and leave the rest bare for a more traditional look.

I am finishing up a rifle this week that I had TiN coated by Molecular Metallurgy in CA. I will try and get a photo posted today. This is a TiN with Aluminum additive, the result is a very pleasing dark matte charcoal gray color. Molecular will also do the conventional gold color TiN. Rifle is a Nesika action with a Schneider 27 inch stainless No. 5 fluted barel, that I chambered for 7,82 Warbird.

John what part of CA? I'm visiting in-laws in Sacramento this week. Tell me more about the firm that did the work. Do they have a website? Thanks.
