Might be good start to call the company that Cerakoted it for you for advice. Can they spot in Cerakote coatings? Will they match spot on?

If you turn the barrel in to cover it up, you still have to remove some coating to be able to stamp the proper caliber on the metal and re-coat or spot in that area. Would it make sense to remove the kote from the shank, micro weld and polish and re-stamp and re-kote leaving the barrel in the same position as built?

I just engrave over the coating and then either leave it bright, cold blue it, or put another coat of paint on it.
Cerakote is just paint; contrary to some belief.

It looks a little different but I have seen some manufacturers mill a window on the barrel for the caliber marking. You could do the same, mill out a window which would remove the incorrect marking, and then re-mark the correct caliber in the same window. It would be similar to the "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" etched panel on SAA revolvers or the attached pic.

This would save you from removing the barrel and possibly scuffing the fresh cerakote while setting it back. Obviously the fresh steel window and marking would need to be touched up with matching cerakote but if you turn it back to hide the old marking wouldn't you still need to touch up the cerakote?

I believe I’d set it back 1/4-turn, mill off the error, remark and repaint. PITA but mistakes usually are.

Hope it doesn't look like it was "fixed".

I have a rifle marked 30-40 Karg.
Could you fill the writing with ceracoat till it can't be seen?
