Thank you sir!! In rereading, I don't want to sound like a blithering idiot. I know how easily it can be done. I don't know of the legalities since it is a proprietary cartridge. I know about all/most of the wildcats of this ilk. To clarify, I want factory stamped brass and the Dakota fills my need just fine.

TY....all you need is a reamer and rechamber a barrel.....the only time you need to be concerned is if you are in the business of selling that chambering service in finished guns.....They can't stop you from chambering your own barrel.....just don't go in the business of chambering that round commercially without paying royalties to Dakota.

Thanks again. I wouldn't even begin to try to fit and chamber the barrel. It seems I saw a finish reamer somewhere but forgot where. Actually, I was hoping someone might have one, but it is looking rather slim. What is your opinion of the 7mm Weatherby vs 7mm Dakota. 7mm Rem is the most practical, but it's not as fun.

Send an email to Jim Kobe ( Jkob60@msn.com ) ....he can chamber a barrel for your action and fit it and crown it etc and he can rent a reamer. He's competively priced IMO and does superb work.

He can also open the rails to insure good feeding thru your Mauser '98, bolt handle alteration, drill and tap for scope, and install a safety of your liking.....maybe after you see the cost you'll learn to like the 280 Remington!!!!!

Thanks for your reply. I've got a lovely .280 Rem that I've used for years. Shot my biggest mule deer buck with it. Bought a 7mm Rem in 1964, so I guess I'm just looking for the unusual. I relly appreciate your imput and I'l speak with Mr. Kobe.

Ever think of a 7x300 Win? Cheaper brass, easier to get reamer, works in a standard action, and will probably match the 7 Dakota. If you want a really goofy one, do a 7 Mashburn Super. Jim Wisner has the reamer and will rent it out. Does take a full length action, of which I am going to use a Sako L61R I found with a 7 Rem barrel on it ( I wanted to use a Husky 98 I have, but don't want to alter it too much - maybe save it for a 9x62). Drawbacks, dies cost 145 bucks; have to form cases in two or three steps). Can make off 300 Win brass. COL 3.57. Stats match roughly the 7 STW. This is the Bob Hagel/Warren Page cartridge. I started a thread on it under gunsmithing and someone was nice enough to enter some Nosler reloading data. Good stuff. Several other guys on the forums also have 7 Mashburns and seem to like them. IMEO, its what the 7 Rem should have been (the Mod 700 Action is plenty long enough), although Jim Wisner and Duane Weibe, both gunsmiths, didn't like it much due to (apprently) some folks running high pressures. I've been wrong before. I have a 7 REm on a Belgian Mauser, and it has stood me in good stead, but its going to my son soon, and I wanted a project gun.
