Identify an eBay Stock?

Seller states he does not know what rifle this stock fits: eBay stock. Can anyone identify it? Looks like there is at least some tiger-striping burried down deep beneath all the neglect. Might be a decent experiment, if I knew what it fit.

The mag box area seems pretty small compared to a 98. Judging by the amount of wood between it and the trigger hole. Could it be a short action of some sort?

The logo on the pad I believe is Herters.

Many years ago they marketed their own rifle in the US that was I think made by BSA, they called it a Numer 6 or 7.

This stock could be for one of them.

Spencer, Herter's also sold 95% inlets for anything that was available back in those days. My dad got a Herters semi inlet for a springfield 03 and built the rifle that started my interest in custom guns.

Oh, absolutely Herters marketed stocks etc. for nearly every rifle made.

It is just that the footprint in the stock looks too short and fat to me to be a normal Mauser, though it does have some telltale Mauser signs (bolt release flat for one).

I just made a guess that it might be from one of their 'own' rifles.

I wouldn't pretend to know what it is either.....some sort of shorter Mauser action I believe.

The top view looks like it has a groove for an unmodified Mauser rear tang. The bottom view appears to be inletted in the front tang for a hinged floorplate.

With that fat little tang it looks like my med/22-250 action sako would fit.
