I have always liked the idea of converting my old model Ruger .44mag semi auto carbine to .454Casull.

Could it be done, how much work would the action need?

Does anyone know of a gunsmith that might take up such a project?

I have an old Ruger 44 carbine with the muzzle shot off due to leading.
I ran into a collector of 44 carbines, and he said that is common and there is no source left for the barrels.

I got a Marlin heavy 44 mag barrel from Numrich.
It is going to be the milling machine project of my life to fit that to the rifle.

I am not even going to THINK of the extra trouble of getting 45 Colt cartridges into that little feed tube.

i wont say it can't be done...

1: mag wont work... ruger spent 2 years just getting the 22h to work
2: different length rounds... action will have to be heavily modified
3: action is strong enough for 44 mag.. but added abuse of 454?

would a nice lever action work for you? these are available

I think the version he is referring to Jeffe, is the OLD one with the tube mag in the forearm. Anyway, I don't think it'll fly because of what you said, and the action strength. I'm feeling lazy today and won't bother to check on this before I speak, but the .44 Mag is SAAMI spec'd somewhere around 40 Kpsi, the .454 around 60 Kpsi. Angels won't go there, neither should anyone else.
