Scope Mounts For A 788 Remington

I have had three rifles built on the 788 Remington action. All are superbly accurate.
(I guess I'm a sucker for the 541 rimfire and the 788 centerfire type of action.) I am in the process of having a full blown tactical rifle built on another 788 action. It will be a 6.5 X 284 totally tricked out. I have a Leupold scope mount adjustable for windage on all the other rifle but I can't for the life of me come up with another anywhere. Do you gentlemen have any leads as to where I can find one. If you don't have any clues as to where I can find one does any one have a suggestion in regards to a quality mount by another manufacturer, preferably windage adjustable. If memory serves me right, Redfield used to make a mount for the 788. Any information would be appreciated greatly.

Just out of curiosity, why do you need a scope mount with a windage adjustment? I have a 788 in .243 that I had to install some Millett mounts since the gun shoots about 6 feet off to the right. It was obvious when I mounted a scope with a sun shade that the holes weren't drilled correctly. I was wondering if all 788's were drilled/tapped as poorly as mine.

Had 3 788's, still have my vintage 1971 M 581. Used Weaver rings and bases on them all, no prob. Did a trigger job on all of them (about 2lbs.) One was in .223, it would shoot under.3 @ 100yds. but wasn't pretty enough. Now I have a pretty 223 and would trade it for that old M788 in a heartbeat. Dan

I really don't have to have a Leupold mount. I just wanted one for this rifle like the rest of my 788's. They are so hard to find. I have used Weaver mounts for years and have experienced no trouble either. I just wanted the Leupold for the windage adjustment to keep all of the adjustment possible. I can get elevatio nwith either shims or bases milled to gain elevation. I want to shoot realy loooong range with this rifle. I have never owned a 788 (and I have 8 of them) that was drilled that far of center for the scope bases. That is a totaly correct statment that the 788 is not a pretty rifle. It just shoots. Just like the 581/541 rimfire. This is a great action. It has everything going for it. Extremely fast lock time. Multiple locking lugs on the rear of the bolt, detachable magazine. Remington just never dressed it up. I am really interested in the Millet mounts do they have a website? Thanks for the posts.
