We picked up a 404 Jeffrey built on 98 mauser a few years ago from the Estate of a gunsmith. This was his personal rifle. The rifle is not fancy, but it is an good accurate rifle. It functions flawlessly. If it has a fault, it is the fact that it is single shot.
I have thought about installing a box magazine. Seems pretty straight forward to me lengten the box a little, open the magazine well accordingly and install the box.
I am brought back to the fact of why this gunsmith did not do this to start with.
I have never done a Jeffrey before, so fellow gunsmiths is there something I'm missing?
The box needs to be opened up at the rear. The feed angles under the rails need opening also.

Simply replace the present box with a Ted Blackburn 404 bottom metal and cut the action to fit, mostly in the back and about 40 thousands in front, that can be done with you fingernail and won't hurt a thing...You may have to do some rail work if it has not been done.
