In your opionion, which recoil pad does a better job of reducing felt recoil a decelerator or a limbsaver? The rifle is a Rem 300 ultra with the older hard recoil pad that I want to replace.

Both will do you fine. Weatherby uses the Decelerator for their monster calibers. Remington uses a Limbsaver for theirs. I would choose the one you feel will look the best. -Spencer

Both are good pads like Spence said. The limbsaver is better in my opinion on reducing the recoil. I had one on my 416 rigby, I've used a couple of limbsavers, but I put a decelerator on the stock I'm building for the same rigby. They are both good pads. I do not like the 990 decel, it looks like gangster whitewalls on a 4x4 truck. I think the .limbsaver lays flatter, I've had decels kinda curl up on me before. I think the limbsaver reduces felt recoil quite a bit better. The decelerator is less sticky, though. I have a decelerator on my primary hunting rifle, and a limbsaver on the one I shoot the most for recreation. Both are way better than nothing. If I'm going to be shooting a lot off the bench I'll even add a PAST shoulder pad, especially if it's cold. The decelerator seems to get a bit harder in cold weather.

mbrook, I just tuned in a 300 ultra for a guy that was equipped with a limbsaver and it was not the bad experience that I imagined it was going to be. It was a Remington in a synthetic stock and the limbsaver turned out to be a shoulder saver as well. They flat work. Jim 99% of the democrats give the rest a bad name. I replaced the stock pad on my Rem 700 375 H&H with a Sims Limbsaver, after about 60 rounds. The difference was very pleasantly noticeable! I've since run several hundred more (260, 270, and 300) thru it, and enjoy it more now.

Limbsavers are softer but sticky. If you want the gun to slide smoothly to the shoulder then the Decelerator is better and still very soft. Marshall Jones

I bought a Ruger 77 RMS in .458 Lott on which Ruger had chosen to install a recycled man-hole cover as a recoil pad. After about 60 rounds of life-changing recoil I installed the LimbSaver pad. It did a full personality transplant on that rifle - it really is enjoyable to shoot it now! I'll be deer hunting with that rifle this fall - just for grins!
