How do I get rid of grey iron/steel filings in the stock? I taped off the stock while filing a tang flush, but the iron filings got under the tape. Now there's a grey cast to the wood. Tried a stiff brush, but the gray cast remained. Can I sand it out?

Try wetting the stock with acetone and then go over the area with a good strong magnet / either or, it works sometime if the filings have not been pressed into the wood. --- John
