OK, OK, my bad. It does have an octagon receiver so it must be a Nagant. I don't remember it having the dropped magazine that I thought the nagants had. Thanks for setting me straight. Rob

7.62x64 is a RIMMED round... the 7.62 russian, for the mosin nagant... are you TOTALLY sure it's a REMINGTON ENFLIED m17? if it has a OCTAGON rec, it's a nagant... nagants were made by remington.... if it IS an enfield, for 95 bucks, jump all over it.. grease it and throw it in your storage/gunlocker until you get around tuit!! jeffe

There is a badly sporterized one for sale in a local shop for $95. They say it's chambered for 7.62 x54 (30.06?). I have read that these are very strong actions and are used for magnum sporters. True? Thanks, Rob

Jeffe is right, if it is a Remington ENFIELD pattern 1917 then jump on it. Providing of course that when you say badly sporterized you don't mean butchered beyond repair. How many extra holes does it have, what metal is removed, what has been done to the bottom metal etc.? Remington is a very good one, probably the best of the enfields. Red
