Factory barrels
Does anyone know where the big rifle companies like Winchester, Ruger, Remington etc. get their barrels. I understand that Ruger, and I think Savage makes their own, but have no idea about the others.
Thanks for the help.

I would be interested in where the Kimber 84 centerfire barrels are made. A gunshop store clerk told me that the blanks are made by Wilson and turned to shape by Kimber in N.Y.

Remington makes their own. "Hammer Forged Rifling". In the past Remington used Rock barrels for a few LE applications (M24) but they brought manufacture back in house.

I heard from a S&W rep. that Remington does not even make or assemble the 700 series barreled action! But that it's made by S&W.

This was told to me by a S&W rep. in a gunshop in CT in front of the owner.

They also make pistols or pistol components for Kimber along with guns and gun parts for other companies.

I think that's a Remington rumor. Who'd want to take credit for the Model 700 [Razz]
