How well do they hold up when used in the field? What type of leather is best? Thanks

The ones I have installed that went to Africa and spent most of the time in the rig and those that are used on upland bird hunts show some mild abuse but will last a number of seasons. However I have had a couple come back from brown bear and sheep hunts that resemble road killed muskrats and we replaced them with solid rubber pads

Glad to get a professional view on this subject. I've been toying with the idea of making up some leather covered pads. In our part of the country, with the terrain , brush, tangle foot, and other assorted unfriendly obstacles we trip over, fall over and get knocked down by here in the PNW. I'm thinkin' "Road Kill Muskrat" would be the end result. Thanks... "Isn't it pretty to think so."
