Can anyone tell me if Mauser ever used any cast parts such as the bolt body and barrel? I'm not talking cast iron, but steel. I was told, for example, that some Brazilian 98's had cast barrel. Thank Joe

Seems I remember something about steel being cast into large ingots at the foundry and then rolled or forged into bar stock. I think most steel is made this way even today, but nobody casts any rifle barrels that I know of...ever. You're not confusing it with forged are you? The bolt shroulds were sand cast then machined. It is very obvious in the very late war K98Ks (1945) as much of the casting was left unmachined. They were in a hurry! The recent La Corona commercial Mauser receivers look cast to me. The 1950s La Corona military Mauser receivers look machined to me.
