Gents:

Doing some work, passing a long winter's night while a storm is upon us. I was reading some old posts and began to wonder how a "proper" Model 70 in 375 H&H might be done up.

Please bear in mind I am a LH shooter which rules out the Pre-64 action and leaves us with the Classic. Let's further suppose we began the project with a 7mm STW.

New barrel? Maker and contour specs?
Sight system for front and back? Scope specs?
Stock material and configuration?
Metal work/finish?
New bolt handle?
Tasteful engraving? or none at all?
Finish on the stock if wood? Kind of wood?

Other?

Pictures welcome!

Let's also assume this is a rifle to be used and not left sitting in a gun locker or on the wall.

How about this...

1. threaded end of barrel for muzzle brake (only used when at a weekend of gunsite)
2. NECG masterpiece banded front site with night site insert
3. NECG flip up express site (1 leaf regulated for 50 yards with fixed leaf ground off so it isn't in the way. Flip up to follow up)
4. EAW QR scope mount with Leupold 1.5 -5 soon to be replaced with S&B 1.5 - 6
5. NECG peep site for EAW base
6. Sunny hill drop belly (for 5th round)
7. McMillan stock (lusting after a Biesen wood replacement)

Done 'right' for what? Africa? Alaska? Dry weather? Wet weather? Long range? Close range?
DG? PG?

I have what you have and took three of them straight out of the box, mounted scopes on them, had them looked over by a gunsmith for any obvious feeding problems, then shot the heck out of them. Took them to Africa and shot 17 animals between my sons and I. Never had a problem and all shot 1" to 1.5" MOA.

They worked fine and were "properly done up".

It's a 416 remington but the same principles apply.

For clarification, George, consider the rifle as a general purpose rifle to be used in various climes, for various classes of game, in various weather conditions, at various ranges.
